Singapore Airlines revamp lounges
Singapore Airlines has finally confirmed it is to proceed with a major major revamp of all it's lounges at Singapore Airport Terminal 3.
The First Class (and The Private Room) lounges, the Business Class lounges and the Star Alliance or KrisFlyer Gold lounge will all get an extensive 50SGD million make-over and modernisation.
Hirsch Bedner Associates will complete the design, giving each lounge as they say "a fresh look and feel that is modern yet homely, while inspiring a sense of timeless elegance."
The renovations are due to commence in August 2019 and are expected to be completed by mid-2021.
The redevelopment project will see an overall 30% increase in space and total customer capacity for the Terminal 3 lounges. The new lounges will offer more generous open spaces, upgraded facilities and a much better bar and food area. However, the self serve bar area will go, to be replaced with a manned bar area with waiter service.
First up for a redesign will be the Business Class lounge. It will include
- New productivity pods, similar to those seen in the new Sydney lounge.
- A new snooze or rest area
- A revamped cafe, redesigned in the style of a relaxed Cafe for light snacks
- Large theatre dining space with Asian and Western cuisine and live cooking are featuring signature local delights
- Small served bar area which will convert into a self-service breakfast station in the morning
While the Business Class lounge is being revamped from August 2019, passengers will be redirected to the existing and somewhat cramped KrisFlyer Gold lounge, In turn, Star Alliance Gold passengers will decamp to the DPS lounge down the balcony.
The Private Room within the First Class lounge will be next up, featuring a style somewhat reminiscent of the Cathay Pacific First lounge at Hong Kong. The First Class lounge will continue to offer a flagship bar while The Private Room will retain its full-service fine dining section. Singapore Airlines say the new lounge will offer "Customers can look forward to an enhanced epicurean journey with fresh and seasonally curated dining offerings, on top of the perennial local favourites."
Finally the new KrisFlyer Gold Lounge will be double in floor area, and will at last - a decade after opening and after many complaints - feature it's own bathroom and shower suites. As a Star Alliance Gold lounge, with has been pretty camped and underwhelming, but will now also have it's own dedicated working spaces and larger al fresco seating and dining areas. It will be complete in late 2021.
