Swissport has opened Australia’s first Aspire lounge at Perth airport. Located in the Domestic Terminal 2, which is currently home to charter and regional flights operated by Virgin Australia, Alliance Airlines and Rex, there is access for all passengers on paying a fee.

The new Perth Airport Terminal 2 Aspire lounge is welcome addition to the lounge offerings at Perth Airport, with an upper mid-range offering. As such it sits comfortably with the airlines such as Virgin using the terminal and offers a decent pay-in alternative for passengers in economy class, and without lounge access through their Frequent Flyer card.

Swissport have done a commendable job in taking over the space of the former Virgin Australia lounge Terminal 2, creating a light bright lounge, with uprated catering that is almost on a par with international standards, and which would be welcomed by many passengers for pre-flight dining ahead of the long hop over to the East coast, with overnight flights to Sydney and Melbourne.

The new Perth Airport Terminal 2 Aspire lounge offers comfortable seating for up to 120 passengers, with lots of light given there are floor to ceiling windows, facing which are plenty of large armchairs with small tables.

As you enter there is a large green feature wall, and then you see the focal point of the lounge, which is the huge WA themed mural on the opposite wall.

There is good complementary food and drink, from small local Western Australian suppliers. In the mornings there is a full hot breakfast, with eggs, bacon, sausages, tomatoes and the like, plus barista-brewed coffee. From 10am the bar opens, and meals move onto a daytime buffet, with a pizza and small snacks. From 11.30am to 2pm there are a number of ready plated meals, cooked by the on site chef, including pasta dishes and even roasts.

The bar is very good, and as you might expect, included beer from the local Perth brewery Little Creatures, plus wines from the Cape Mentelle vineyard, a pioneer winery of the Margaret River wine region in West Australia. Sparkling wine comes from Chandon Brut.

Spirits are also served, with bar staff mixing cocktails in the evenings.

Wifi in the lounge is very fast, and there is a small wireless charging section. All magazines and newspapers in the lounge come from a digital subscription.

There are no bathrooms in the lounge, and you have to leave the lounge to use the facilities.

The Perth Domestic Aspire Lounge is very good, and easy to get to, being just after security. You can also access the lounge from terminal 1, walking through the short airside walkway.

The Aspire lounge is open 4am to 4pm, but weekdays only.

There is access for all passengers at A$44 per person online, or A$50 walkin. There is currently no access for Priority Pass, however Swissport say they are working on securing an agreement.

With the opening of its first Australian Aspire Lounge at Perth Airport's Terminal 2, Swissport continues to expand its lounge network in Asia Pacific. Just weeks after the acquisition of No1 Lounges with facilities in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, the new Aspire lounge in Perth becomes Swissport's fourth lounge in Australia.

"We are excited to bring our renowned Aspire lounge brand to Perth Airport. It will make travelling for our guests as relaxing as possible. Our lounge products are carefully designed to meet the unique and evolving needs of our airport and airline partners," says Brad Moore, Swissport's Managing Director Australasia. "The remote area workers that frequent Perth's Terminal 2 will have access to a peaceful new space for socializing and dining, adding some extra comforts to the start of their journey."

"Pay-per-use lounges are becoming more popular at airports around the world," says Perth Airport Chief Commercial Officer Kate Holsgrove. "It is great to be able to open the new Aspire Lounge to our regional passengers as a place to escape the hustle and bustle before their flight."

A second Aspire lounge will open in the International Terminal at Perth Airport later this year. It will be built in the airport's former control centre and part of the observation deck, transforming it into a dedicated space for passengers to unwind and enjoy sweeping views of the airport and the city skyline.
