Swiss premium economy uprated
Swiss International Air Lines, better known as the all-caps 'SWISS', will install a new Premium Economy Class on all 12 of the airline's Boeing 777-300ER long-haul aircraft.
On the Boeing 777-300ER the new SWISS Premium Economy Class will offer 24 latest-generation seats from manufacturer Zim. The seats, with fabrics provided by the Bern-based Lantal company, feature a hardshell design that enables them to be easily reclined without impacting on the passenger behind. Other airlines have tried this design - notably Cathay Pacfic - and reviews have not always been favourable.
Another novel feature is that there is no curtain between the cabin and premium economy. However, there is a slightly larger gap. Hence, it may be seen as being economy with a bit extra, rather than an specific class on its own.
Every Swiss premium economy seat has a pitch of 39 inches, compared to 31 inches in economy, with a fold-out leg rest for added comfort, and are arranged in a 2-4-2 layout. Width is just over 18 inches.
There is also a reading lamp, one mains power, and two USB power outlets.
Premium Economy Class travellers are given a complimentary amenity kit. The kit, which is provided by the Skysupply company, makes innovative use of kraft paper and paper pulp in its contents to minimise plastics use.
Premium Economy Class travellers are also provided with quality noise-reducing headphones and video comes with a 15.6-inch at-seat screen.
SWISS's inflight culinary offering is also uprated with SWISS Premium Economy guests receiving a refreshing welcome drink and are offered a choice of three hot meals, all served on china tableware.
The first aircraft to be fitted with fly on the Miami route, followed by San Francisco, and Sao Paulo in Brazil from the end of April. Premium Economy will be available on all of SWISS's Boeing 777-300ER routes from the end of May onwards.
SWISS Premium Economy travellers can check in two pieces of baggage of up to 23 kilos each - twice the registered baggage allowance for regular Economy Class travel. They also enjoy discounted access to the SWISS Business Lounges at Zurich and Geneva airports and to Zurich Airport's SWISS Arrival Lounge.
