British Airways meals in the time of Covid
All British Airways inflight meals will be served in pre-packaged, disposable containers. Cutlery will be plastic and pre-packaged, a complete reversal from the airline's previous moves to cut out plastic. However, this ensures that contact points and the chance for virus transmission are reduced as much as possible as part of British Airways coronavirus precautions.
Wine, beer and spirits are still being served. British Airways will still offer snacks between meals on long-haul flights, and a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will still be available to accompany meals.
All passengers will get a bottle of water as part of the service, regardless of the class of travel and even on the shortest of flights. Economy inflight meals are actually slightly improved compared to the previous Before Covid (BC) offering.
British Airways Long haul Covid meals economy
In Traveller and World Traveller Plus (or premium economy and economy class) every passenger in the economy cabin on shorter flights will be given a bottle of water and a snack.
These will be complimentary, a slight improvement on the current offering. This will be the same as in World Traveller Plus. While passengers in premium economy normally get a slightly better meal service than in Economy, for now both cabins will share the same menu while the temporary catering is in use.
There is a small sandwich, a salad and dessert pot.
Breakfast gains the rare perk in economy of a croissant.
Long Haul Business Class COVID British Airways meals
In Club World inflight food is somewhat downgraded from the normal offering, and is served just in one box.
Passengers will get plastic cutlery and disposable food containers. The box contains a salad, sandwich, cheese and biscuits, and a dessert.
At breakfast time the meal however looks somewhat better than the rushed meal normally served
If you think this looks familar, you're probably right. It is remarkable similar to the 'emergency foodpacks' or Bento Boxes which BA keep stacked at Heathrow in case there is another catering dispute.
Long Haul First Class COVID British Airways meals
The most significant changes to the current lineup will be seen by the passengers travelling in First Class. Pre-prepared meal boxes will now be served in all of the cabins. Only first class will be served a hot dish. Despite showing a willingness to try to provide, it is a big step down from the usual First offering.
Afternoon tea is still on the menu, but it is only served to passengers in the First cabin upon request. Instead of the three tiered plate, it now comes in the standard box, with scones and clotted cream, plus macaroons and sandwiches.
Short haul Business Class COVID British Airways meals
There are still meals in Club Europe (short-haul business class) but it is still pre-prepared in a box.
Economy customers will get complimentary refreshments once again - a big step up, after BA abandoned complimentary catering a few years ago.
British Airways say regular service will resume at a date to be decided in the future.
