New natural Admirals Club design rollout
With a revamp of its Admirals Club lounges across the United States, American Airlines has made the decision to boost the ante. Customers will get to see the new design for the first time this autumn at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). The debut of this first club will mark the beginning of the largest airline in the world's redesign of the premium Admirals Club.
"The new Admirals Club interior design is inspired by our customers, who tell us that their favourite aspect of visiting our lounges is feeling like they're 'coming home,'" said Clarissa Sebastian, Managing Director of Premium Customer Experience & Onboard Products. "This design is the culmination of a partnership between American and an award-winning architectural firm well known for their designs in the hospitality space. Each element was thoughtfully developed to create an environment of calm, with natural woods and open spaces, so our customers can relax and feel their best as they prepare for their flight."
Washington's new look Admirals Club is purposefully designed to be more like a hotel bar or lounge.
The most recent iteration will have lots of light and a larger emphasis on natural finishes, which will be a dramatic contrast to Washington's outdated, motorway service station like predecessor.
A spa-like haven of tranquilly is created by exposed timbers, a fireplace enclosed in glass, and dappled blue carpets. Each subsequent club, according to American Airlines, will make oblique references to the neighbourhood.
The innovative design was created by Chicago-based DMAC Architecture & Interiors, whose team also works on luxury boutique hotels and hospitality venues.
Other notable improvements include an updated sports bar, a self-service buffet, pendant lights that resemble floating orbs, and cosy booth lounges. There are seating options for couples, groups of friends, and workers who want to catch up over a few drinks.
DMAC Architecture & Interiors, a Chicago-based company, developed a distinctive vision for America. Customers will be welcomed inside by recognisable brand components as well as allusions to regional scenery and monuments that tell the history of each city and foster a feeling of place. Selected design components that create a calming and familiar atmosphere will let wellness shine in a special way. Intentional elements of sustainability are also incorporated into the new design, such as brand elements made of regenerative American walnut in each lounge.
"Our focus in working with American is to create a meaningful environment for guests to experience the airline's inspirational brand and airport lounge in a fresh, new way," comments Dwayne MacEwen, Founder and Principal of DMAC Architecture & Interiors. "Lounges will include a collection of thoughtfully designed memorable spaces, with opportunities for guests to engage, retreat and rejuvenate. The new design of the Admirals Club lounges offers a bespoke hospitality experience in which every detail is curated for guests to feel cared for at each touch point during their visit."
