Qatar open 3 frequent flyer Doha lounges
Qatar Airways has unveiled three lounges at Doha Hamad International airport, open to its Privilege Club members and Oneworld alliance card holders.
This is in addition to the airline's three existing lounges at the airport: Al Safwa First Lounge, Al Mourjan Business Lounge and the Oryx Lounge, which are only open to passengers holding First and Business Class tickets respectively.
Access to the new lounges corresponds to members' frequent flyer tier status, and thankfully Qatar avoid confusion, by naming them according to the colour of the cards.
Open to Qatar Airways Privilege Club Platinum members and Oneworld Emerald card holders (including British Airways Gold members, and Qantas Platinum), the Qatar Airways Platinum Lounge South - located at Concourse A - has space for up to 140 passengers with á? la carte and buffet dining, showers, a quiet area, and a prayer room.
The Qatar Airways Gold Lounge South, located just underneath the Platinum lounge, is accessible to Qatar Airways Privilege Club Gold members and their Oneworld Sapphire equivalents (such as British Airways silver and Qantas Gold): this 85-seat lounge includes family seating, a bar, a dining area and buffet, along with showers.
Frequent flyers can also use their complimentary access to bring a guest into each of these lounges.
These lounges are in addition to the Qatar Airways Silver Lounge South - which opened in March, and is located at Concourse B. This lunge is the largest of the three, and has space for up to 195 passengers with a family area and a quiet area, buffet dining and baggage storage facilities. Qatar Airways Privilege Club Silver members are admitted, but not Oneworld Ruby card-holders (such as BA Bronze, Qantas Silver, or American Airlines Gold).
These three lounges replace the airline's underwhelming Oneworld First Class and Oneworld Business Class lounges, which were always packed and decidedly uncomfortable. However, a curiosity is that the smallest lounge is the Gold lounge, which has the majority of lounge-worth frequent flyer members. It remains to be seen if it will have enough room for all the passengers that can access it. American Airlines Gold Frequent Flyers are not permitted entry to any lounge when travelling in economy on Qatar Airways.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said: "It is my pleasure to announce the opening of three premium frequent flyer programme lounges at Hamad International Airport, just in time for the peak Eid holiday. Our latest Platinum, Gold and Silver lounges demonstrate the airline's commitment to rewarding Privilege Club and oneworld alliance members with coveted benefits that befit the service quality Qatar Airways is synonymous for. We look forward to welcoming passengers to experience our sophisticated, modern and spacious lounges when transiting through the World's Best Airport."
