New Lufthansa premium economy seat revealed
The second-generation premium economy seat for Lufthansa, since the German airline introduced the new class, will have a fixed shell, ensuring that passengers don't recline into each other when the seat is moved back: recline however is still manual, and the pitch remains 38 inches, the industry standard.
Also on offer is a larger video screen, which is purely touch screen, USB and mains power recharging sockets, and a split tray table compared to the existing one which pops out of the armrest, but which currently takes up some of the seat width.
Lufthansa's new premium economy seat will also be fitted to it's partner airline Swiss, where it will appear on the Boeing 777-300 and Airbus A340 jets from mid 2021.
Lufthansa's Boeing 777-9 fleet will also sport an all-new business class seat which will finally provide direct aisle access for every passenger, when the Boeing 777-9 jets start flying from late 2020.
During Lufthansa's annual Capital Markets Day the airline revealed that Premium Economy had been a success, and generates six per cent more revenue per square metre compared to the business class cabin.
