New Lufthansa First, Business, Premium
Lufthansa launched a new wave of passenger experiences dubbed 'Allegris' which is repositioning Lufthansa back into the middle of the pack, compared to it's serious poor current offering which looks very outdated compared to it's competitors.
The new onboard product, which has been called "Allegris" by the airline, will involve a complete upgrade across all cabins. Starting with new delivery Boeing 787-9s and Airbus A350-900s, the seats will also be installed on Lufthansa's Boeing 777-9s, which will be delivered from 2025 onwards. Curiously, Lufthansa also plans Allegris refits to it's Boeing 747s, which is probably the last major carrier to carrier refit a 747.
At the front of the cabin, in First Class, Lufthansa will have enclosed suites. The seat, which is almost one meter wide, can be converted into a large, comfortable bed. There is a lot of storage, and a large, personal wardrobe in every suite. However, with the doors meeting the seat, it will be a tight squeeze to get into Lufthansa's First Class pyjamas with the door closed.
Within the cabin, there is an ottoman which doubles as a companion seat, above which is mounted a large high definition TV screen with Bluetooth audio streaming to wireless headphones.
The first chance to try the seat will be on the Lufthansa A350, of which ten will be fitted, and will take off from Munich in late summer 2023.
Also, on the A350, there will only seem to be 4 seats, a significant reduction from what Lufthansa offer now.
Moving back a cabin in Business Class, Lufthansa's Allegris business class develops the original and innovative Boeing 777-9 model, with alternating rows of a 1-2-1 layout with 1-1-1 rows, boasting a middle 'throne' seat.
All seats can be converted into a two-meter-long bed, and there is a TV screen which is 17 inches wide. All seats have wireless charging, Bluetooth noise cancelling headphones and the ability to connect one's own devices, such as a PC, tablet, smartphone, or headphones, to the entertainment system, via Bluetooth.
Lufthansa says the walls surrounding each seat are at least 114cm high, with generous space in the shoulder area and ensuring greater privacy without resorting to doors.
However, it is the front row of Business which is the most interesting. Here, it's very much Business plus, which offers even more comfort and privacy due to higher walls and sliding doors that completely close. There is also a monitor up to 27 inches in size and ample storage space, and yes it does include a personal wardrobe.
Premium Economy also get's an upgrade - but it's a very familiar seat. Lufthansa's new premium economy seat is already fitted to Lufthansa's sister airline, Swiss.
The seats have a hard shell back, allowing recline without affecting the passengers seated in the row behind you. The seats feature a fold-out leg rest and come with a 15.6-inch monitor. Pitch is just above the industry average at 39 inches of pitch.
Finally Allegris economy class seat gets a new seat, with a slightly larger TV screen and bluetooth connectivity. It is also possible to book it with a neighbour free seat, and a tray table in the middle seat. However, a variant here is in economy, there's the sleeper 2.0, an enhanced sleeper seat which has more seat pitch, and therefore a larger sleeping surface. Although details are scarce, it seems to be just an extended legroom economy seat.
All these changes mean there is are a huge number of products and classes going into just one aircraft, namely:
- First Class, with suites and doors
- Business Class Front Row with doors
- Business Class Throne
- Business Class
- Premium Economy Seat
- Economy Sleeper 2.0 Seat
- Economy Class neighbour free
- Economy Class
Marketing and retailing that lot is a headache the logistics team may not welcome!
