Cathay Pacific has opened a new yoga and meditation room in the Pier lounge at Hong Kong Airport.
The newly opened Yoga Studio at Cathay Pacific's The Pier business class lounge also has meditation space, where passengers can stretch and bend before flights.
Cathay's The Body Sanctuary invites travellers to follow guided yoga videos. The Sanctuary is divided into two zones: the Body Sanctuary, for video-guided yoga and stretching, including some stretches that can be done in-flight; and the Mind Sanctuary, where travelers can listen to guided meditation sessions from Pure Yoga's teachers, or practice so-called "gazing meditation," in which "comfortable cushions overlook graphics placed on the wall."
The area was designed in partnership with the Hong Kong-based Pure Group, and offers video guides to exercises "designed to improve circulation, enhance joint mobility and relax the mind" of passengers who need to de-stress.
The yoga studio is open to anyone with access to the lounge, including Silver British Airway's cardholders, Gold Qantas members, and Diamond, Gold and Silver members of Cathay Pacific's Marco Polo Club. First and business class Cathay Pacific customers also have access.
"Wellness is becoming increasingly important to our customers and The Sanctuary by Pure Yoga in our Pier Business Class lounge is the perfect place to relax before a flight," says Vivian Lo, Cathay Pacific's general manager for customer experience and design.
Marco Polo Club Gold and Diamond members arriving into Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific can also unwind on the ground. Up to 12 times each year, these members can visit any Pure Fitness centre or attend any Pure Yoga classes in Hong Kong itself.
Adding yoga areas to airport lounges has become something of a trend in recent years, with Qantas also opening a Yoga studio at it's highly regarded Qantas Perth transit lounge.
