Emirates premium economy launches
The new Premium Economy cabin is a first for any Middle East airline, featuring 56 seats in a 2-4-2 cabin layout.
With a pitch of up to 40-inches for a few seats at the front of the cabin, and 38 inches for the rest, Emirates' premium economy seat is 19.5 inches wide, and reclines 8 inches into a comfortable cradle position in a fairly standard layout for premium economy.
Covered in cream-coloured anti-stain leather with stitching details and a wood panel finishing similar to Business Class, each Emirates Premium Economy seat has a 6-way adjustable headrests, calf rests and footrests.
Each seat has a 13.3" seatback TV screen, or on an armrest at the front of the cabin, plus a wide dining table and side cocktail table.
Every Emirates Premium Economy seat has a USB and a normal multi-standard 120 power socket which fits UK plugs among many others.
Emirates Premium Economy is located at the front of the main deck, with the usual 3 lavatories at the front of the aircraft dedicated to premium economy passengers.
The airline has received their newest A380 aircraft from Airbus' Hamburg facility; the remaining order of 5 A380s will also be delivered with Premium Economy cabins, throughout 2021 and into 2022.
Until all five aircraft are in the fleet, Skywards Platinum and Gold members booked in economy on the latest A380s will be offered a complimentary upgrade to the Emirates premium economy experience.
The new Emirates A380 also include a slight upgrade to the Business Class seat.
There is as yet no word on what extra service or meals will be offered on Emirates Premium Economy.
While Premium Economy is a new class for Emirates, which had previously settled on just three classes, it has been offered by some airlines as far back as 30 years ago, with Eva Air and British Airways were among the first to offer what was then a new class.
