Iberia reveals new prebooked food
Iberia passengers can now select and pay for their food when booking their flight.
The new Iberia pre-order menu is called 'Deliverfly' and allows passengers on flights around Europe and to the UK to purchase meals and snacks in advance when booking.
The airline says it is to improve the passenger experience and reduce waste on board the aircraft, however it follows a trend among many airlines with reduced passenger volumes, of on catering on a pre-sold basis to reduce food wastage.
The Deliverfly range includes both hot and cold dishes and caters for everyone - vegan and salmon "poke" bowls, a variety of salads, sandwiches, and pastas.
As you would expect from a Spanish airline, there is also tapas.
Fresh dishes such as salads, pokes, and sandwiches must be ordered four hours before departure from Madrid, and 24 hours in advance from other cities served by Iberia.
The Iberia Inflight Meals are prepared daily by Iberia's caterers Do&Co in Madrid, and can be driven out to the aircraft straight from the catering factory in the Spanish capital, but for all other destinations are made and carried on an Iberia flight the day before the passenger is due to fly.
Customers place orders via the "Manage my booking" page at iberia.com, either when booking a ticket, or before check-in closes. After entering a booking PNR code, passengers click on "personalise my flight", where options from the 'Deliverfly' menu are available.
As a result of Covid-19, Iberia axed the buy on board service, and encouraged passengers to bring their own food. However, that is once again restricted, and the only way to get meals on board in economy is by pre-booking.
the usual Pre-prepared meals are available in Business Class.
