Skyteam opens Istanbul Lounge
The new Istanbul Airport Skyteam lounge offers locally-sourced dishes and drinks, fast wifi, showers and plenty of seating areas.
It will become the new Istanbul Airport lounge for KLM, Air France, Aeroflot, Korean Air, Middle East Airlines, Saudia and TAROM.
The lounge is over 500 square yards (meters) in size, with more than 145 seats, so it can at best be described as a mid-sized lounge, but it's the right size for an outstation where there are only a dozen or so Skyteam flights a day, and with no native Skyteam airline, just as at Dubai or Sydney.
At the buffet you can sample authentic Turkish cuisine such as freshly cooked pide (Turkish pizza) prepared on-demand at the live cooking station, mezze and with traditional tea and coffee. The menu includes European dishes, as well as a selection of snacks. Spirits, soft drinks and wine sourced from local Turkish vineyards are also available.
The only long-haul carrier is Korean Air, and most passengers will be flying only 2 or 3 hours, so a good point is the lounge has a number of shower suites.
SkyTeam's Istanbul lounge is available to Elite Plus, First and Business Class customers.
The lounge is open 24 hours a day, and it is located in the West Wing on Level H. Up here, the lounge has an elevated position making it yet more of a haven away from the bustle of the new Istanbul airport.
